Everyday thousands of people are turning 65, and just like the ones before them, Florida is where they are heading. The sunshine state is still the premier destination for seniors in America, and the recent surge in seniors has electrified the senior housing market in Florida.
“Senior and assisted-living facilities are on the rise in south Lee and North Naples as the region prepares for an influx of baby boomers. “We’re seeing growth across the state. I think people are gearing up for the baby boomers and what the state population will look like in five to 10 years,” said Shad Haston, executive director of the Florida Assisted Living Association. There are multiple senior living communities and assisted living facilities under construction or newly completed in Estero, Bonita Springs and North Naples and there are more planned. The boom in housing for seniors is reflective of a larger trend as Florida prepares for a mass migration of retirees. In Southwest Florida, the demand is growing across the region and developers say the lack of focused senior housing is an unexploited market niche.”
